- Would you introduce yourself in a few words?
I am Théo Jan, I’m 24 and am an illustrator. I come from Toulouse. I have a degree in cabinetmaking from Revel I then came to Paris in 2010 to find a job. I started as a framer then I found a job as a printer at SergeantPaper, I stayed until 2014. After that, I completely focused on drawing.
- Where does this interest for drawing come from?
Let’s say I got the bug when I was a kid, both my mother and father went to Fine Arts School in Toulouse. So, I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. When I arrived in Paris, I had a roommate who was a musician friend so it motivated me to start drawing again.
- What is your work’s operative word in your mind?
Trying to keep a critical eye on my work.
- Who are your inspirations?
I don’t go far back in time but in contemporary art I would say Mohlitz, a French engraver with unusual work and superb burin stroke. I discovered some time ago Nicolas Delort ’s illustrations, his technique is impressive. Shane is also a young illustrator who rocks.
- What is your favorite creation currently for sale?
Probably my series of carcasses: it allowed me to widen my universe and discover my current technique.
- What are your future projects?
I work a lot with Steveen Salvat, on 2-hand illustrations. We have been preparing an exhibition for a long time, it should happen soon. Other than that, I’m preparing a solo exhibition at Sergeantpaper for some time this year.
