ZYNE means beautiful in arabic and this brand is aptly name. Indeed, founded in Casablanca, in 2016, by Zineb Britel, a Morrocan born designer and Laura Pujol, a french marketer, Zineb’s best friend and business partner.
The challenge for ZYNE was to reinterpret the traditional “babouche”, national iconic shoe of Morroco, to make it modern and suitable to all kinds of lifestyle. It’s easy to recognize the perfect style of the designer’s generation with multi cultural vibes combined with research of comfort in each creation. The “babouche” became “morrocan mule” or “morrocan sleepers”.
From traditional events to a casual trip to the grocery store, there is a style to suit every occasion. Flat and light with a pointed toe, it has neither quarter nor parts and lacing to close them unlike papush, of Persian origin meaning “cover the foot” and carried by the Bedouins today during traditional ceremonies.
Although men and women wear it , ZYNE only offers, for the moment, women collections.
The art and craftmanship required to design and make them is a time honored tradition.
The ZYNE shoe brings Moroccan tradition into the 21st century by imbuing this classic slipper with the spirit of wanderlust and effortless glamour. Customarily created by hand out of leather, the babouche is an individual style statement – moulding itself to the wearer’s foot over time, so that it truly belongs to no one else.
ZYNE is more than just a shoe, it’s also an ethical adventure whose the mission is also to enable women. Every pair of ZYNE shoes is touched by a moroccan woman from one of the cooperatives we partner with. As part of the ZYNE family, these women earn money to help their own families but also gain a sense independence and confidence as their contribution to this business is recognized by the world at large.
